Ayurvedic Herbal Teas for Every Dosha: CCF Tea, Ginger Tea, Calming Tea and More
In English
A Cup of Balance
Herbal teas are one of the easiest ways to bring Ayurveda into your day. They are warm, gentle and made from everyday kitchen spices. Here are six favourites, and how to choose one for your dosha.
1. CCF Tea (Jeera-Dhaniya-Saunf): The All-Rounder
Good for all three doshas, digestion, bloating and gentle daily detox.
- Mix cumin, coriander and fennel seeds in equal amounts.
- Boil ½ tsp of the mix in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes.
- Strain and sip 2 or 3 times a day.
2. Fresh Ginger Tea: Wake Up Your Digestion
Best for Vata and Kapha: low appetite, gas, cold and cough.
- Boil a few thin slices of fresh ginger in 1 to 2 cups of water for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Add a squeeze of lemon. Add honey only when the tea is warm, not hot.
Pitta types should drink it occasionally. People on blood thinners or with acidity should be careful with a lot of ginger.
3. Tulsi Tea: For Breath and Immunity
Best for Kapha and Vata: colds, congestion and seasonal change.
- Boil 5 to 7 tulsi leaves with a small piece of ginger and 2 black peppercorns in 1½ cups of water.
4. Cooling Rose-Fennel Tea: Calm the Heat
Best for Pitta: acidity, irritability and hot summer days.
- Steep ½ tsp fennel seeds and a few dried rose petals (gulab patti) in hot water for 10 minutes.
- Let it cool to room temperature before drinking.
5. Cinnamon-Cardamom Tea: Warming Comfort
Best for Vata and Kapha: cold hands and feet, sluggish digestion and winter.
- Boil a small piece of cinnamon and 2 crushed cardamom pods in a cup of water for 5 minutes.
6. Calming "Tranquillity" Tea: For Stress and Sleep
A traditional blend for stress, worry and restless sleep.
- Mix Brahmi, Jatamansi and Shankhpushpi in equal amounts.
- Steep ½ tsp in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Drink about an hour before bed.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or take sleep, anxiety or thyroid medicines, ask your doctor before using these herbs.
Quick Guide: Which Tea for My Dosha?
- VATA: ginger, cinnamon-cardamom, CCF, tranquillity tea

Tea-Time Tips

- Replace one cup of tea or coffee each day with an herbal tea.
